Commuting to the office this week I could not take my eyes off a woman who was seated on the subway wearing a long, white, teddy bear coat, paired with a forest green triangle knit scarf wrapped softly around her head and tied beneath her chin - with matching mitts. Perfection. At first I was impressed by her bravery to choose the colour white in a season that can be harsh and unforgiving to the fabrics we wear to keep warm. But then my attention was fixated on her curated winter accessories. I asked myself “Did she make that triangle scarf herself? Could I pull that look off? Where does one buy a triangle scarf and is it as soft as it looks?” I watched her exit the subway train and walk out of my life forever - but as the days continued on I could not get the knit triangle scarf out of my head.
I brought it to notes:
And what I learned was - you’re all thinking about the triangle scarf as well.
I decided to ask The Cereal Aisle crew where one might find an essential triangle scarf and the suggestions came flooding in.
One person even identified the very Etsy shop I could purchase one of my saved triangle scarfs from.
Last year the essential winter accessory was the balaclava. I never purchased one but I adored seeing how they were incorporated into women’s daily bundle up.
I kept imagining how a navy triangle scarf might really elevate the way I look and feel bundled up in my very practical black sleeping bag jacket. How maybe the soft knit might compliment my auburn hair and fair complexion. I also thought about how if I took care of the knit scarf I could have it for a long time and repurpose it as a shall as well. I decided to purchase a reasonably priced and well made navy scarf from an Etsy store. I’m quite pleased with it and how darling I feel wearing it.
In other pockets of my mind I’ve been filling space with:
Songs by Suki Waterhouse
The Life Cycle of the Common Octopus by Canada’s own Emma Knight
Lastly, I’ve decided to change the format of my newsletter. It will now be called “On My Mind” paired with a subject and will have a similar format to todays template. I hope to continue with the “What Mums Wear” series as well periodically. I hope you continue to read along. I also hope you are keeping well, taking care of yourself and each other. xo Hannah
